Dan is an experienced litigator who defends both
individuals and companies in white collar, regulatory and complex civil
matters. Prior to joining the Law Office of Sara Kropf, Dan was Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the Securities and
Exchange Commission. While at the SEC, Dan was a member of the Asset Management
Unit, a specialized group investigating potential misconduct involving
registered investment advisors, investment companies and private funds, with a
particular focus on violations of the Investment Advisers Act.
Dan has also worked in the New York offices of two large international law firms and clerked for the Honorable Joan A. Lenard, U.S. District Court Judge in the Southern District of Florida. However, it was his first job as a Little League umpire in Wayne, New Jersey that introduced Dan to the most important skills of lawyering: public speaking and knowing the applicable rules better than all of the spectators.
In his capacity as a litigator and former enforcement attorney, Dan has represented and prosecuted individuals and organizations in the financial services industry, large, publicly traded companies, and multinational manufacturers and service providers. His extensive experience includes navigating the criminal and regulatory investigations process, with specific focus on the SEC. He is also experienced in criminal trial defense, as well as all aspects of civil litigation, from pleadings through appeals. However, Dan prefers that his clients stay out of the courtroom whenever possible and, to that end, provides compliance counseling for financial services and government contracting clients in the growing areas of securities-related and FCPA enforcement.
When he is not working, Dan likes to go adventuring with his wife and rescue dog, road and mountain biking, and going to (professional) baseball games.
